WalkCrowd ("we", "our", or "us") operates the WalkCrowd mobile application. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our app.
1. Information We Collect
Account Information
When you create an account, we collect your email address, display name, and authentication credentials through Google Sign-In or Sign in with Apple.
Location Data
With your permission, we collect GPS location data while you are actively tracking a walk. This includes:
- Start and end coordinates of your walks
- Route points during your walk for distance calculation
- Approximate location for the "nearby walkers" crowd feature
Background location is only collected when you enable the "Auto Walk Detection" feature, which detects walking activity automatically.
Health & Fitness Data
We calculate calories burned based on your walk distance and speed. If you use the Apple Watch companion app, walk workouts are saved to Apple Health with your permission.
Usage Data
We collect anonymized usage analytics to improve the app, including screens visited, features used, and error reports.
2. How We Use Your Information
- Walk Tracking: To record your walks, calculate distance, duration, calories, and CO2 savings
- Crowd Features: To show nearby walkers on the map (your location is fuzzed to approximately 100 meters for privacy)
- Social Features: To enable friend connections, challenges, and chat messaging
- Statistics: To show your personal walking statistics, goals, and achievements
- Notifications: To send walk reminders, challenge updates, and chat messages (with your permission)
3. Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal data. We share data only in these circumstances:
- Crowd Map: Your approximate location (fuzzed to ~100m) is visible to other users on the crowd map while you are actively walking
- Social Profile: If you follow or are followed by other users, they can see your username and walking statistics
- Service Providers: We use Firebase (Google) for authentication and push notifications, and Google Maps for map display
4. Data Retention
Your walk history and account data are retained for as long as your account is active. You can request deletion of your account and all associated data by contacting us.
5. Data Security
We use industry-standard security measures including HTTPS encryption, secure token-based authentication, and encrypted data storage.
6. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access your personal data
- Request correction of inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your data
- Disable location tracking at any time
- Disable notifications at any time
- Opt out of the crowd map feature
7. Children's Privacy
WalkCrowd is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the app or by email.
